T.G.I.F. - Welcome To The World, Jameson!!

Well, unless you are not connected to either of us on Facebook, you are aware that Jameson John Park was born this morning at 7:55 a.m. He checked in at 7 lbs. 3 oz., exactly 1 pound heavier than Savannah was.  Jameson was measured at 21 1/4 inches vs. Savannah's 20 1/2.  Jameson wins!  Not exactly discouraging sibling rivalries, am I?

So, how did things go?  Well, if you were to go back to Savannah's blog and revisit the account of her entry into the world, you would see that it was somewhat chaotic - Sharon got induced, laid awake most of the night, it didn't work, blood pressure was up, Savannah not responding well to contractions, decision made to do c-section, doctor called in on Saturday morning, 12 hours of labor reduced to a 20-minute procedure of which I was rushed in for the final 2 minutes, etc, etc.  For Jameson?  It was an orderly, calm, and peaceful event that was scheduled weeks in advance and that went exactly as planned.

Because Sharon had a c-section for her first pregnancy, she would not be allowed to have any future children by natural birth, hence the planned c-section.  So, Sharon got up, took a shower, did her hair, put on a little make-up (as much as the hospital would allow), and we left her parents' house in Simi for the hospital in Simi.  We stayed at their house because we were scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. Getting up at 4:15 in the morning rather than 3:45 sounded slightly more preferable.

So, we arrived, they made her comfortable, we watched Golden Girls on TV (not my choice), they prepped her, they walked her into the operating room, I put on my gown, then made my way in.  I was actually there for the entire procedure, although I opted not to watch any of it.  I probably could have watched but wasn't going to take the risk of fainting in the operating room and missing the birth of my child.  I'm not that stupid. So, I sat there and we held hands as the doctors did their work. They had music playing in the background.  As Jameson turned onto the home front, Hotel California began playing.  Yes!! I tapped my feet as one of the nurse guys played air guitar.  As Don Felder kicked into the guitar solo, the nurse took her position, blankets in hand, ready to receive our son into the world.  After the song ended, Jameson John Park made his entrance into the world.

They spent a pretty good deal of time cleaning him up, suctioning him out, and all that stuff.  I got to cut the cord.  Very cool.  They spent a lot more time working on Jameson than they did with Savannah.  Savannah gets beat yet again! But that was fine with us.  The night after Savannah was born, she turned blue and stopped breathing due to all the mucus and junk that was still in her lungs. Scared the you know what out of us!!  During a normal birth, all that stuff gets worked out during labor.  With a c-section, it has to be manually pumped out, and it takes about 24 hours for it all to be worked out.  That's what we learned anyway.

This time around, Sharon got to be with the baby for virtually the entire recovery process.  All the cleaning up was done in the operating room whereas the last time it was done in a separate area. This time around, Sharon got to be wheeled into the nursery to be with the baby whereas last time, she couldn't see Savannah until she was back in the recovery room 2 hours later.  Why was it different this time?  Because we were in the brand-new maternity ward at Simi Valley Hospital.  Savannah was born in the old maternity ward, just a couple of weeks before the new one opened.

The rest of the day went very well.  Jameson has been great.  He's a little fussier than Savannah was, but not bad.  Savannah set such a high standard.  She cried for 30 seconds after she was born and hasn't cried again since.  Well, that's not totally accurate but you get the idea. But at any rate, I think Savannah will win in this category.  Sorry, Jamey. Keep trying though!

The common denominator amongst all the congratulatory emails and messages has been something that we noticed in the nursery earlier in the day...that Jameson looks like Savannah.  And it is hard to deny. Go back to Savannah's blog and check out some of the photos.  I will post pictures of each in the coming days, so you can see their pictures side by side.  In the meantime, you can see what may have been my favorite moment of the day...when Jameson met her sister.

Well, I'm fading fast, so will save the rest of my comments for later.  We're both nervous about Jameson after what happened to Savannah - so will be hard to sleep tonight.  But the nurse reassured us and is having Jameson sleep on his side on an incline.  By the way, the nurse seems to remember Savannah.

Hopefully this blog post was coherent.  Time to get some....uh, attempt to get some sleep.  Good night!
